Fineturf specialises in golf course construction and alterations: design, planning and project management, earthworks, shaping, drainage and irrigation, final preparation, surface installation and aftercare. We work with course managers, head greenkeepers, committees, architects and consultants. Depths and mixes are set with the agronomist, a typical Fineturf USGA green is a drained formation, 100mm gravel carpet and around 300mm of rootzone. John O’Gaunt’s 13th, for example, used 350mm of 70/30 rootzone over a grit blinding layer.

On recent USGA work, greens typically take a 100mm gravel carpet; tees a shallower gravel layer, Woburn’s Titleist Performance Centre used 100mm on greens and 50mm on tees.

  • Primary and secondary land drainage schemes
  • Sand and gravel banding
  • Irrigation system design, specification and installation
